Artist Statement
Keegan was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, where he currently resides. At a young age, he discovered his passion for art, and began teaching himself how to draw based on the imagery and illustrations in comic books. Over the years, he has continued to develop his techniques, skills, and personal style, while only taking a few formal art and painting lessons. Keegan loves using a variety of mediums, including acrylic, oil, charcoal, watercolor, aerosol, and ink. He enjoys learning new concepts, and is consistently evolving his methods to produce new, handcrafted original artwork.
Keegan mainly finds inspiration for his artwork from the surrounding landscape and environment. Having spent several early childhood years on one of the Indian reservations outside of Tucson, he was greatly influenced by traditional Native American and Mexican figurative art. Following his family’s move to South Tucson, Keegan was also instantly captivated by the local street art and murals. Because of these experiences, he has forged a distinct personal style with bright colors and bold line work. To further diversify his abilities and subject matter, Keegan has vigorously studied several renown Contemporary American illustrators, as well as some of the classic masters of the Impressionist Era. Combining all of these inspirations, his resulting artwork is a balance between beauty and nature, and emphasizes desert flora and landscapes, as well as portraits and illustrations.
Keegan has been producing and selling art for over 15 years, finding his earliest work in creating band concert posters and custom album covers. He had his first solo exhibition at the age of 15, and has continued to regularly display his artwork in galleries and venues throughout the southwest. Keegan has also produced large-scale murals for several local restaurants and bars, and always enjoys an artistic challenge. In his spare time, he tends to his botanical and cactus gardens, goes on hikes with his wife and travels to museums around the world.
